Last week me and my class made beeswax wraps, we made them so we can reduce the amount of plastic in our lunchboxes. Beeswax wraps are reusable so instead of using sandwich bags which are plastic and not really reusable we can put our sandwich in our beeswax wraps.
Recently Tuffery Class has been learning about how much plastic the world uses, how to reduce plastic waste and also about plastic in the ocean. We learnt that so many marine animals die each year because of the plastic in the ocean so we decided we should try to reduce our plastic waste and then we made beeswax wraps.
To make beeswax wraps we need 100% cotton (fabric), pinking shear (zig zag scissors), beeswax pellets, baking paper, a towel an an iron. First pick a fabric of your choice, cut the fabric into a square with a pinking shear 30cm by 30cm then sprinkle a 1-2 handfuls of beeswax pellets and spread them out evenly. After that put a layer of baking paper on the top and bottom of the fabric so your iron doesn't get damaged then iron the beeswax slowly and gently so it melts on the fabric. When you can't see the beeswax pellets anymore and it has all melted peel of the baking paper gently then take the beeswax wrap of the baking paper and let it dry.
